TRIP TIPS AND TIDBITS

What To Bring
Bringing Firearms into Canada
Manitoba Deer Hunter Statistics
Personal

WEATHER CONDITIONS

Manitoba's weather conditions in October/November can be quite variable.  While the past two hunting seasons have been unseasonably warm, you are best to come prepared with a choice of clothing.  Temperatures can range from +50F to -15F (+10C to -26C) . Snow is a definite possibility.  Firearms should be degreased and lightly oiled to prevent freezing.  A good solution is to use a reliable product like G96 Complete Gun Treatment (G96.com) of Paterson, NJ, which has been tested and trusted during cold weather by our Royal Canadian Mounted Police.  Dressing in layers is also recommended, with a high-quality base layer (polypropylene long underwear and undershirt), and reliable gloves/mitts and boots. As the closest town is 45 miles away, going there to purchase appropriate clothing will take away valuable hunting time.

WHAT TO BRING:

  • layers of warm clothing and socks
  • blaze orange hunting vest/jacket
  • blaze orange hat/tuque
  • gloves, mitts
  • hand muff/warmer is recommended (check out IceBreakerInc.com for cold-weather hand and feet products
  • insulated, rubber (autumn) pack boots
  • winter boots (cold-weather pack boots)
  • camp shoes
  • ski goggles (come in handy while riding on ATV)
  • deer calls
  • thermos
  • camera (film, batteries)
  • firearm(s)
  • ammunition
  • rain gear
  • flashlight
  • headlamp
  • safety harness

BRINGING FIREARMS INTO CANADA

There are federal (Canadian) firearms regulations concerning ownership, ammunition, transporting and bringing firearms into Canada. You will have to submit a
Non-Resident Firearm Declaration form
upon entry into Canada.

Do not attempt to bring any handguns into Canada.

Please visit the Canada Firearms Centre website (scroll down to "Information For..." and click on "Visitors/Non-Residents"). Or phone them at 1-800-731-4000 for information concerning your firearms and the declaration form.
